Difference between Carpet area, builtup area and super area

Difference between Carpet area, Built up area and Super area. In every residential property or commercial property- There are 3 types of area.

  • Carpet Area –

As the name suggests, Carpet Area means the space where you can lay a carpet in the flat like a bedroom, living room, hall, Kitchen, toilets & bath. so carpet_area does not include the thickness of the inner walls. 

  • Built up Area or Plinth Area

This area is the #carpet_area plus the thickness of outer walls and the balcony. It can be calculated by adding areas of utility ducts within property unit, internal and external walls to the carpet_area. 

  • Super Built Up Area

This area is the built up area plus proportionate area of common areas such as the lobby, lifts shaft, stairs, etc. Sometimes it may also include the common areas such, swimming pool, garden, clubhouse, etc.


Generally CARPET AREA is around (60 to 70)% of SUPER BUILT UP AREA. But note that this percentage varies from project to project and builder to builder.

Difference between Carpet area, builtup area and super area

Simply now Understand that-

  • If Super area area is 1000 sqft
  • Than, Build Up area will be around 800 sqft
  • and carpet area will be around 600 sqft
